Hi, I’m Maeve!

I’m an illustrator and visual artist based in Los Angeles, California.

I’ve been drawing since I was old enough to hold a pencil– when asked what I wanted to be when I grew up as a kid I would say “the person who draws the pictures in books”. Whether it was reading, acting, music, or any other of my artistic outlets, storytelling has always been the driving force behind how I connect with people.

My work utilizes bright colors, soft shapes, and textures borrowed from traditional media, with a focus on narrative. I love creating expressive characters, usually girls or animals. Although my intended audience is primarily children, I think anyone with a sense of wonder and nostalgia for whimsy will appreciate my illustrations.

I love the look of hand lettering, and sometimes include hand-lettered text in my illustrations. For the first picture book I illustrated, Chickpea and the Book Tree, I hand-lettered the title for the cover. I think handwriting anything is a great way for it to feel more nostalgic, personal, and whimsical.

My medium of choice is my trusty iPad, Apple Pencil, and drawing program Procreate, however I also have an interest in creating large-scale work and have had the privilege to paint two murals, the first in 2018 and the second in 2023.
